Vital Stats

Hey pups! I thought I would do a bit more of an informative post today, seeing as I have not done one in a while. This one is about vital statistics, such as gum colour, temperature or heart rate.

Recording your pup's temperature or resting heart beat is important,as you can have something to refer back to if you suspect that there is something fishy going on like ingesting something we shouldn't or a heart condition. Cats can sometimes get away from car accidents, seemingly unharmed but the give-away will be a disturbed heart beat or breathing pattern (another sign can be scraped claws). If you have worries about taking stats off your dog or are not sure how to ask your vet for a lesson.

Temperature

The average for a dog is 38.6 to 39.3 degrees Celsius but this can vary from size of dog so it can be from 36.7 to 39.3 or 39.4 degrees. However, if it is over 40 or below 36.7 call a vet FAST! A doggie thermometer can be either a rectal,, oral or ear one. When using the later make sure to insert it deep into the ear and a reading from an ear thermometer should vary between 37.8 to 39.4.

Heart Rate

A normal  resting heart beat can waver between anything from 60 bpm (beats per minute) to 120 bpm. To find your dog's pulse you can check on the chest, the elbow joint or high on the inner side of the thigh. Use to fingers and count how many beats there are in 15 seconds and multiply that umber by four to get bpm.

Small breeds: 90 bpm to 120 bpm

Medium breeds: 70 bpm to 110 bpm

Large Breeds: 60 bpm to 90 bpm

Gum Check

Gum colour is another great indicator of your dog's well-being as it gives clues about oxygen levels and circulations. The normal gum colour is a healthy pink, anything other such as yellow, red, blue or white is a sign that you should be worried. To the the circulation press lightly on the gums. The area should go pale quickly and when you release regain colour. If this takes longer than a couple of seconds, call your vet.

Urgent Delivery for Dina Dog

Hey pups! I thought I would share with you my latest purchases that arrived on Saturday. Mom ordered me a pair of hygiene pants because of my season and also a new collar tag. we ordered the pants and pads for it off MedicAnimal and the Tag off IdtentiTags.

I only wear them at night, this was just for photo purposes.

Picnic Party

Hey pups! In honour of FitDog Friday and the awesome weather, the whole family went for a picnic. We all had high expectations as the day was sweltering but yet again England let us down and we were shivering. With the exception of moi, as I was too busy dashing up and down the hill after my flying ring. The ice cream we brought along was not wasted as the humans, still ate it- with the exclusion of a grumbling Mamma!

Deep Sea Diving

Hey pups! Mom has told me that today was probably one of the scariest days of her career as a Dina owner. Why? Because I jumped into a cow drinking tank! Which was just full with stagnant, green and filthy water. We have had a return of the hot weather and being the crazy dina that I am I was running around, naturally making me thirsty. What I however refused to accept is that the tank was for cows meaning it is twice my size.

At first I tried to just lean up and take a lap but I soon realised it wasn't happening. Next, I tried taking a couple of small hops, when all else failed I took a bitter jump which did indeed end up with me inside the tank. Mom was over there is the quickest time she has ever moved from x to y. She took me out and to her surprise: I tried to get back in. However, Mom wasn't having it. She picked me up- sopping wet- and carried me a bit. I let the tank drop but now that I was wet, I had to roll on the ground every 30 seconds and getting very dirty indeed.

After arriving home, I got a bath- ugh- and am a pretty white again!

Do you think I could get one off Mom?

Geocaching Adventures: Take One

Hey pups! Recently Ages ago, I posted about going on a Geocaching Adventure and that Mom and I were wondering about making it a weekly post topic. We'll we have come to the decision that we shall be doing a Geocaching post every Thursday- if Mom can get off her buttocks and pick a geocache to find, that is. At the moment, we are going to be working our way through a little series of geochaches hidden in a local common. Today we set off to find the first one- it was a fairly simple find: Rated 2.5 stars for difficulty, 1.5 for terrain and it was a size small. It was box like the one we found on our very first Geocaching adventure. The walk there was a highly enjoyable experience although I was on leash all of the time because a) SEASON and b) near busy roads. The main reason we found it to be easy was because the owner of the cache had left a really helpful and obvious clue: "By now you’ll have looked up and down and all around. I bet you’re STUMPED. Have you checked it properly?" When you have found a geocache, you're supposed to sign with your name and date but as usual Mom forgot a pencil so we will have to go back tomorrow and do that! (Update: Done and you can see the picture below!) After finding it we were going to head straight back home but Mom caved in and said we could walk for a bit but ONLY up to the fence of the common- a win for the puppy-dog eyes. However, when we went up there, she couldn't resist it and on we went. I got to be off-leash!!! Not another dog in sight ANYWHERE! But after one lap of the smaller part Mom put her foot down and off we went.

Enjoying the (brief) sun!

Hey pups! Yesterday was most likely the warmest day of this year, so naturally Mom, Big Guy, Middle Guy and I decided to hit a nice spot in the local hills and spend the day there! Boy it was fun! Mom was picky about where we would go as I am in season, meaning we wanted to avoid busy places where there would be plenty of dogs and humans. Big Guy suggested a place in a small nearby village that we finally managed to find (after much driving around and searching) but Mom said she had an even better place in mind. Off we went in search of this dream place! We did indeed find it and pups...it was wonderful, even if it did take a while to walk to, especially while carrying a fair number of bags containing food. However, as I have said it was definitely worth it.

Hey pups! Just to let you know why there hasn't been recent posts and won't be for a bit because I AM STARTING MY FIRST SEASON!

Dina Mom: This probably does not apply to most of you but I please ask you not to leave comments saying that Dina should have been spayed.
